Raven paused. Her hand gently resting on the handle of the door which led to the roof. Someone else was up there. She could sense it. Why would someone else be up here, Raven thought. The only reason Im coming up here is to meditate in the fresh air and in private. Raven wasn't sure who it was, but she would find out. Opening the door, Raven looked out and didn't see anyone at first. Then she noticed someone sitting on the edge of the roof. It was Beast Boy. He was looking out over the water toward Jump City. Now why is he up here? Raven wondered as she silently drifted over towards him. He did not hear her approach, and as she got closer Raven started to feel a swell of emotions coming in off of Beast Boy.
Whats wrong Beast Boy? Raven queried as she stopped next to him. Beast Boy turned his head, just noticing Ravens arrival.
What? he replied.
I said whats wrong? she repeated.
Beast Boy sighed and softly said, Its been six months. Turning his head down, looking towards the ocean, he continued, six months since Terra was turned to stone. A momentary flash of anger crossed Ravens face at the mention of that name. Beast Boy continued not seen Ravens reaction. And were no further on finding a way to free her than we were at that time.
Suddenly his head jerked up with a look of anger on his face. And now Slade is back! How can he be back and Terra not?! She took him down and then had to sacrifice herself. But yet now hes back and shes still a statue. Its not FAIR! Its not FAIR! Beast Boy shouted to the sky. Beast Boys face changed from a look of anger back to sadness as his head turned down again.
The next few moments were silent. Then Beast Boy spoke, I dont know if I should go see her now, much less tell her.
You should, Raven said softly. You made a promise that you would visit her every week didnt you? And you should keep your promise. No matter what.
Beast Boy looked at her and nodded, youre right he replied. I did make a promise and I intend to keep this one. Thanks Raven. He smiled, I guess I just needed someone to tell my feelings to. Standing up, he smiled at her again, thanks again Raven.
No problem said Raven. With that Beast Boy turned from Raven and jumped off the roof, transforming into an eagle halfway down, and gliding towards Jump City.
Raven watched Beast Boy as he disappeared into the distance over the city. A light breeze began as she turned and drifted to the middle of the roof. Crossing her legs, she began to meditate. Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos. Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos. Azarath, Metrion, Zin
Damn it Beast Boy, why did you have to bring her up? Raven thought an annoyed look crossing her face. She couldnt focus, the image of THAT traitor kept popping up in her mind. With a frustrated sigh, Raven uncrossed her legs and headed for the door. Maybe some tea will help, she hoped as her hand reached out for the door. Just then, a painful memory reared its ugly head.
What stings the most Raven? That I tricked you? That I nearly destroyed your team? That everyone likes me better than you? Or is it that deep down, you really believed I was your friend? Raven gritted her teeth.
All those words the traitor had said during the fight in the mud still haunted Raven.
I did, Raven said bitterly.
I did think you were my friend, but you betrayed us
.you betrayed ME and I shall never forgive you for that.
And with that, Raven opened the door and went in to the tower.
Beast Boy had arrived at the caves entrance. Morphing back to his normal form, he entered. After a few minutes of walking he arrived at the memorial. He stared at it for a moment. Then with a sigh, he walked over and replaced the old flowers with a new bouquet he picked up in the city. He looked at the statue.
Hey there Terra, he said with a weak smile on his face.
How are you doing? I see that no pigeons have made it down here yet, he joked. Normally he would have been telling her everything that had happened over the last week by now. But
Oh me, Im doing fine replied Beast Boy to an unspoken question. With another sigh, Beast Boy prepared himself to tell her the recent news.
Slades back and no, I dont know how hes back Beast Boy blurted out.
He paused for a moment but only silence greeted him.
Then he continued, He has a strange mark on his forehead and now he has these fire powers, and he can create fireballs and for some reason, hes after Raven now. We dont know why, he finished.
Not able to look at her face anymore Beast Boy turned his head down. Im sorry. I know it must hurt having to hear this, he said softly. He then looked back up.
Can you even hear me? Can you even feel anything, Beast Boy wondered out loud.
He looked at her for a little while, and then with tears beginning to form, he turned and started to walk away. Halfway up the tunnel he stopped, whipped around, and ran back down the tunnel to her statue. With tears streaming down his face, Beast Boy jumped up on the pedestal and embraced the statue.
OH Terra you dont know how much I miss you. It hurts not having you here. I wish...I wish you were here. WHY did this have to happen to you? There had to have been another way, Beast Boy cried.
There just had to, he whispered. But there was no other way and Beast Boy knew it. She had sacrificed herself for the city and for the others and him. Beast Boy knew it well as he looked into her face. It was frozen in time, just like the rest of her. He stared into her eyes for what seemed like hours but in fact it was only a few minutes.
Then he kissed her.
The stone was cold and lifeless, but Beast Boy didnt care. He kissed her with all his passion. He kissed her like she was alive. He continued until his lips were numb from the cold. Then, and only then, did he stop, looking at her with eyes of longing and a teardrenched face.
He smiled. I will wait Terra. I will wait till the end of the earth if I have to. Until you are free I will wait, he promised. With that he let go of her and hopped back down.
Still smiling, he said his goodbye. Bye Terra, and dont you worry; Ill be back next week. You can count on it, with that he turned and left the cave.
As the sound of his footssteps faded off into the distance, we see the statue. Cold and lifeless, made of pure stone. But then we see a glimmer of something by the statues eye. It is a tear drop. It rolls down the statues face and drops to the floor. Then nothing more. The statue remains lifeless. But just for that one moment.
That one moment it seemed to be alive!
